We annoucement last week about our partnership with American Tackle Company as a part of their Pro Staff. You can read the blog (here). ATC's weekley newsletter has been featuring their innagural Pro Staff memebers and this week Tony was featured. Here is what they said.
Meet American Tackle Pro Staff Member Tony Overstake
Tony Overstake, owner of True West Custom Fly Rods in Creswell, Oregon, began builidng fly rods as a college student at the University of Oregon. Tony said, "I wanted to fish with the best rods on the market, but could not afford them. This is when I began to fall in love with the craft." He built rods for himself and his friends before starting up True West in 2009. His goal for the company was to blend the time-tested tradition of rod building with the newest and most innovative technology on the market, as well as expert craftmanship.
Tony soon began to realize that he would not be able to handle the business by himself and brought in a close friend, Nathan Woods, to handle the marketing and web design. He also started teaching his wife, Roslyn, to work finishing rods. Tony stated, "Nathan and Roslyn are both invaluable to True West, and Roslyn's skills have quickly surpassed mine in finishing rods." He added,"We are all very excited about the future of True West Custom Rods and our partnership with American Tackle."
Tony is a former college wrestler and wrestling coach for the University of Oregon. He now works as the Chaplain for the University of Oregon football team and athletic department. Yesterday, we got our first shipment of stuff from ATC. We got a shirt and a plaque that recognize us as ATC Pro Staff. They also sent a 2-piece 9ft 7wt Fly Blank that will we eventually build and have a possible give-a-way with. Finally, this package of goodies came with some of their amazing guides. Thank you ATC for the stuff!
